A busy summer of Market Stall Hire…
8th June 7am – We’ve had a busy couple of weeks with market stall hire, so I thought I’d let you know what we’ve been doing – that’s if you’re interested – our event and festival season is well under way and the nature of our business seems to be a little more varied this year. We’re not only setting up markets, our main weekly task now the hotter months (dare I say hotter months!) have arrived but we are also doing a number of festivals.
9th May – Distinctly Delicious Food Festival in Darlington, and birth place of Vic Reeves and Duncan Bannatyne, was our first this year. The weather wasn’t that great but I believe everyone did well from the event. This was followed by the Foodie’s Festival in Birmingham a new event for us and the first one to take place in Birmingham. 6 hours on the road 3 hours to set up and 5 hours home. The ring road in Birmingham was painfully slow and what can I say about the A1! If I don’t see a traffic cone again it won’t be too soon. 4 days later Chris had to repeat the fantastic journey.
Bristol this weeks this will be the furthest we travel this year. We are both looking forward to that. What will probably be 9 hours drive with 3 tons of steel hooked up to our trucks. Oh yes, living the dream! Overnight stay we are thinking. We’re planning what we’re going to do when we stay overnight, as it was a finalist in the European Capital of Culture in 2008 I think we may be spoilt for choice.
Where was I … yeah, Bank Holiday weekend we were at sunny South Shields with the Proper Food Festival. I heard this could be one of the busiest events in the North East, 10,000 people each day! Not bad to be in a position of selling all your stock on the first day! I once heard that if anyone wanted a market in the North East it had to 10 miles from South Shields as the crow flies … I could be wrong, I’m sure someone will let me know if I am.
A couple of weeks ago we helped with Durham Pride which also saw twice as many people turn up than last year. The weather was forecast rain however it did stay mainly dry for the event, but windy when we were de rigging which is always difficult.
Well so far the events and festivals we have helped with have been a massive success for all. We’ve just come back from the Whitley Bay Proper Food and Drink Festival where we will put up our 322nd stall this year! We’ll be hitting 400 in no time.
Dave.
